Update of Good News!

Well, for those of you who are wanting updates on my actual medical status, here is some info!

I got some really good news this week! Did some more tests this week and the doctor gave be a good report.

A few weeks ago, I had a test done and the doctor pointed out all the "bad stuff" in my body. There was a lot of "little bad stuff" in my body...which is not a good thing. "Big bad stuff" can be removed easier then "little bad stuff".

This week, we did the exact same test and all the "little bad stuff" is GONE!!!! yeah! this is such good news! There is still one "Big bad stuff" left and that could be easily removed through surgery and medication.

God is answering prayers!

Nothing has been definitely set at this point for treatment and my doctor is keeping a close eye on me. I will keep you posted as things progress.

Thank you for all prayers and support!

Thanks Everyone!!

We would like to thank you for ordering the "Beat It" t-shirts! We had such an amazing response and constantly have people wanting to order so we will probably be placing a second order towards the end of the month. We are glad that we can be getting the word out about Ovarian Cancer and are excited to donate to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. We placed an order for 95 shirts today! If you still want one and did not get to order during the first round shoot us an email so we know to contact you when we place our second order. Thanks for the support!

Educational Moment

I wanted to take a moment to educate you a bit. For those of you planning to wear the shirt (and those who are just reading). The objective behind the shirt is to make people ask questions. We didn't want something so obvious because then people would read it and walk on. This way, people have to ask you about the shirt which gives you the opportunity to talk to them about ovarian cancer.

Here are some facts to learn: You can let them know that 1 in 70 women will develop ovarian cancer and 1 in 100 will die from it. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 26,000 cases of ovarian cancer diagnosed each year with approximately 15,000 deaths. The death rate is over 4 times that of breast cancer. It is known as the disease that whispers because symptoms are not prominent and they can be overlooked as something else. Many women with early stages of ovarian carcinoma have no symptoms. The unfortunate result is that two-thirds of all women with ovarian carcinoma have advanced disease at the time of diagnosis.

The NOCC has a campaign called Break the Silence to educate women on symptoms and to know what to talk to their doctor about. Someone close to you could be affected by ovarian cancer.

Since its inception in 1995, the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) has been committed to raising awareness of ovarian cancer in communities across the country and to providing education and support for women with ovarian cancer and their families.

NOCC has established itself as an important national advocate for patients and families struggling with ovarian cancer. Committed volunteers continue to build chapters throughout the country and work together to advance NOCC’s education and awareness efforts.

The Chapter network is the heart and soul of NOCC. It continues to grow and provides services in local communities throughout the nation. NOCC volunteers promote patient, public, and professional education, provide peer to peer emotional support, and conduct advocacy and awareness efforts. They organize events, sponsor educational programs, distribute literature and participate in NOCC’s speakers bureau.

Programs
*NOCC 1-888-OVARIAN toll-free information and helpline
*Comprehensive on-line ovarian cancer resource www.ovarian.org
* Publication and distribution of informational literature about the disease, its symptoms and risk factors, treatment and care issues, and community outreach to diverse populations and healthcare providers throughout the United States
* Availability of peer-to-peer support
*Special education and awareness projects
* Distribution of a national newsletter circulated to a grassroots national network of women living with ovarian cancer, families, friends, healthcare professionals, physicians, NOCC Chapters, supporters and the interested public
* Physician and healthcare professionals education through a Symptom Card program and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs
*Aggressive September Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month national public information campaign and special public awareness and education projects

If you have anyone interested, let me know size and color preference. Checks can be mailed to our house made out to Jana Bush. Once we make the donation, we will be sending out a letter from the NOCC recognizing the donation, so people will see that their money made it to the right place!

T-Shirt Update

Due to multiple requests, there are new options for the t-shirt. You can order the shirts in black or teal. Also, we have had some requests for t-shirts without writing on the back (a more PC version for some teachers, etc).

So when making your t-shirt order, specify your color preference. If you would like the shirt plain on the back, please let us know that as well!

Cowboys vs Raiders!

This picture was taken one of the very first times Megan and I hung out. Gun war between a Raider and a Cowboy. I'd just like to say we dominated in the showdown last night.
56-20!!!

Megan, aren't your guns Raider guns any way? I thought your pokes put two fingers up...the point and the middle. Maybe I've been mistaken.

Expect Miracles

When Megan first told me what was going on, my intial reaction was to pray for a miracle. I prayed that God would take it all away and that when Megan would visit the doctor again they would be completely shocked. After I began praying this Satan attacked me. Shocking I know. Satan filled me with lies of doubt that I began to believe. I believed in my heart that Megan could be healed of everything because I knew that my God was big enough. I like to think that I was just being a realist and protecting myself from being hurt, but really all I was doing was saying that I doubted my God's ability to perform miracles.

Thursday morning I had breakfast with my mentor who has continually been in prayer for Megan. After a bit, she told me to put my wrist out. I put my wrist out and she explained to me that she wanted to give me this bracelet that she was given as a birthday gift because she felt that I needed it more than she did. I looked down to read that it said "Expect Miracles". She then turned it over and the other side read "Have Faith"! It was such a blessing to me to receive such a sweet gift from Anne, but also it was a great reminder that my God is bigger and is capable of performing miracles. I love that about Him!!

Here's a photo of the bracelet that she gave me...

Love you Meggers!!

Biopsy Results

Spoke with my doctor this morning and the results are in. No change, which is good news. Everything is still on track as planned. More updates to come.

Updated Prayer Request:

Pray for general health. There are so many different things going around right now. It seems like so many people are sick. Pray that God will build my immune system to fight off the germs that are floating around so I will not get sick. If I do get sick, that means the plan for recovery is on hold...

Thanks again for all the love and support!

Don't Cry For Me Argentina!

So tonight I have received many phone calls, messages, etc of really freaked out, crying, and concerned friends! I ask that you not worry! This post is to educate and enlighten. It's to inform you of what is occurring in my life and what MAY occur in the future.

Yes, things are a little frightening right now and the future is uncertain, but my future lies in the hands of my maker and I am prepared to deal with whatever that future brings! I have complete faith and trust in God that he only wants what is best for me.

So, LAUGH! No more tears! This is a time to be joyful and thankful. So, continue to pray. Healing comes from God...and if healing does not come, then God has plans to use me in ways I cannot see!

Love you all! Thanks for all of the support! I have amazing friends and family! I am truly blessed.

Vote Now

Update: Megan got poked twice at her biopsy, but luckily only passed out once. Now we just wait...the physical pain is over so it's now time for the emotional stress. Continue to pray and we will let you know something as soon as we do.

Leave a comment to vote...We have narrowed it down to Option 2 and will probably be ordering both the teal with white and the black with teal. Thanks to all the guys who said they'd totally rock the teal shirt, but we have considered your masculinity and made a black shirt too. Now I just need sizes and colors. Email me at laughterovertears@gmail.com or leave a comment with your size and either black or teal. Thanks!!!

Prayer Requests

Disclaimer: All humor is intended for the purpose of preventing tears for Megan and me. Hence the title of the blog.

1) Pray for biopsy set for Monday, November 3rd at 1:00 pm. The biopsy will be performed in order for the doctors to best see what they are up against.
2) Pray for her nerves as they perform the biopsy. Megan isn't such a huge fan of needles and this one will be about 8 inches long which we all know isn't the average needle size.
3) Pray for Megan's mommy who is having a very hard time coping with Megan not feeling very well. Plus she has her own surgery coming up on November 13th. Pray that her surgery goes well and that she heals quickly so she can prepare for...
4) Megan's tentative surgery scheduled for Thanksgiving break.
5) Pray for finances as we all know doctors aren't free especially specialists. And now for my shameless t-shirt plug...we have come up with an epic t-shirt idea to help raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer. The design has not been created completely, but we have an idea. On the front it will read "BEAT IT" and on the back "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!" Somewhere on the front it will also say something about Ovarian Cancer, that's the detail we haven't worked out yet. The t-shirt will be teal w/ black, brown or white writing. A small portion of the proceeds will go towards helping out Megan and her family, while the rest will be given to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

Love,

Jana
